The Final Paper Of English

Dearfriend Ronald,

In this letter, I am going to tell about one of the most celebrated of all Mohammedan caliphs whose name is Harun-al-Rashid, which means, in English, “Aaron the Just”. Harun is the hero of several of the stories of the “Arabian Nights,” a famous book, which perhaps you have read. There are many curious and wonderful tales in it.

He is also my hero, too! You know the reason why. First, he showed a great courage and war skills at the age of eighteen which allowed him to lead the army against the Muslims and won many victories. Second, he was a man of peace, because he accepted the Roman Empress to pay 70 000 pieces of gold yearly as a tribute and leave Constantinople unharmed. Third, he was a far sighted young caliph who chose only able ministers to carry on the work of government so well and to improve the people's life conditions. Fourth, he was a man of a great artistic taste who built a palace in Baghdad, far grander and more beautiful than that of any caliph before him.

Finally, he was very anxious that his people should be treated justly by the officers of the government; and he was determined to find out whether any had reason to complain. So he sometimes used to disguise himself at night and went in the streets and bazaars, listening to the talk of those whom he met and asking them questions. In this way he used to learn whether the people were contented and happy, or not.
