A teacher needs to master the effective use of language. This is so because through words there is a dynamic exchange of ideas in the classroom. How then can teachers harness the immense potential of words to affect learning? For starters, consider how you will brainstorm and think about this issue. Rather than simply keeping your thoughts in your head, you could jot them down in a mind map. A mind map will serve as a powerful tool to help you brainstorm, think, solve, and implement your conclusions how effectively use language in the classroom. How then can teachers harness the immense potential of words to affect learning through the use of mind map? First, teachers need to develop in themselves the habit of reading, and reading a lot. Reading will enable teachers not only to learn new things but also to cope with the evolving nature of language. It is without doubt that a language is dynamic. It changes all the time. As language evolves, new words, expressions, and jargons develop; thus, making communicating fun and exciting. This would be a good time to start brainstorming in your mind map. What have you read lately, did you learn anything from it, and have you noticed how or if what you read affects your use of language? Jot down all your thoughts in your mind map. Second, teachers need to be “on the up” in terms of terminology. Certainly teachers will come across unfamiliar or strange words. The dictionary is a versatile tool for learning the meaning of these unfamiliar words and how to use them correctly in a sentence. Yet some of these strange words cannot be found in the dictionary. That is why the internet is very useful in this case specifically the meaning of the recently-evolved words. Are there any words that your students use that you have no idea what they mean? Write these words down, as they appear, in your mind map. From there you can research the terms so that you can be well informed in the classroom. Finally, teachers need learn how to be sincere with their use words. Teachers need to know how to use words in communicating with other people, especially their students. Just because a teacher may know a word (or think they do), that does not mean they know how to use the word correctly in context. For instance, the word “bad” can mean both bad and good in its use. There are a myriad of examples like this and a teacher should make every attempt to learn. As times evolve, and as the mind map evolves, the teacher will have a huge collection of language they have learned through the process. The beauty of mind maps is you can just add more information as it comes.
