Text:
Crossword puzzles are said to be the most popular and widespread game in the world, but have a short history. The first crosswords appeared in England in the 19th century. They were printed in children’s books and different periodicals. However, modern crosswords were born in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century and became an adult’s pastime. The journalist Arthur Wynne invented and published the first crossword grid on December 21st,1913 in the New York World newspaper and he named it a “word-cross” puzzle.
