1-) We use gerunds as subject of the sentences.
Ex: Baking a cake isn’t easy.
Doing homework is a boring thing.
Dancing under the rain is fun.

2-) We use gerunds after certain verbs such as:
Admit Anticipate Avoid Consider
Delay Deny Detest Fancy
Finish Can’t help İmagine İnvolve
Keep(=continue) Mind Miss Postpone
Resist Risk Stand Stop

Ex: I don’t deny being late, but I’ve a good reason for this.
My father postponed going on avacation.
Don’t be angry with him! H can’thelp behaving like a child.
I can’t resist eating chocolate.
Keep trying, I know you’ll besuccesfull.
Have you finished cleaning the house?

3-) We use gerunds after certain verb + adverbcombinations such as:
Carryon - Give up - Keep on - Leave off - Put off

Ex: The child gave up crying after herfather bought the toy she wanted.
He carried on disturbing methis week.

4-) We use gerunds after prepositions.
Ex: After living together for one year, they got married.
He didn’t find much difficultyin finding a part-time job.
He left home without sayinggoodbye.

5-) We use gerunds with possessives.
Ex: I don’t mind your being late for school.
Debby insisted on Joe’s helping.
She can’t forgive Laura’s actinglike a child.
He can’t stand her coming latehome at nights.
